Silbando

This is form of whistling language used in La Gomera to communicate across great distances. It was dying out for a while but now they're teaching it in schools which is no bad thing.

La Gomera

A few shots from my trip to La Gomera in the Canaries last month for Sunday Times Travel. It's a beautiful place, a world away from nearby (and always visible on the horizon) Tenerife.

New studio shots

ElectricWord_COMP_blog_2.jpg

I've been shooting a lot of these recently in my studio for Electric Word. Thanks to the fantastically talented and patient models so far!

How to cut pipes

Again at Wolseley. I loved the terracotta of the pipes next to the blue of the machinery. On a technical note this was a good chance to test out my new D810, it's a pretty amazing camera.

AA maps

Nigel Phillips out and about sourcing data for AA maps in Basingstoke. Shot for PSP Rare.

Mercedes-Benz World

A day at Mercedes-Benz world in Weybridge last week. Martina (www.Martinamoor.com) and I were filming indoors but couldn't resist taking a car for a spin on the skid track! 5L V8 Twin turbo, whatever that means. It roars..

Happy Easter

Happy Easter Folks! This is what may be the most valuable chocolate Easter Bunny in existence. Commissioned by www.VeryFirstTo.com and sculpted by chocolatier Martin Chiffers, it has diamond eyes and a price tag of £33,000.. That's an acorn he's holding.

I found this chick in the lift of my building and gave him a good home. This photo looks like a sort of Easter Nativity.

Kwun Tong alleyways #1

This project was the result of several days touring the back alleys of the industrial Kwun Tong district in Hong Kong. My good friend Aria Yang at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is working with the HK government to rejuvenate the area and draw attention to the alleyways. She invited me to come and take some photos of the people who use them.

It’s my favourite bit of Hong Kong, away from all the shiny streets and shopping malls. It feels more like the city I remember from my first trip in 1996.

We found a whole ecosystem of studios, garages, food stalls; all sandwiched into passages often no wider than a few feet and so tall that they were in permanent twilight. The only visible sky was a thin strip above our heads and condensation from air conditioners provided a constant rain so that it felt as if it had it’s own weather.

Roy Payton

Roy Payton is a very impressive individual, inspiringly positive. At 80-something he cuts a dashing figure on his inline skates and with a top speed of 5mph has become the terror of the Eastborne coastline.
