The subject of guns and rights to bear arms came up quite a bit. I've come to realise, whatever your view on it (my view is a bit less fixed than before I came), there are a lot of people who aren't going to give up their guns. This couple were out for Sunday lunch, he brought his 44 Magnum and she regretted leaving her 38 at home.

Montana #2

Thanks to D'Arcy, Joseph and family for a great day. Being inside a proper traditional teepee was a first!

Montana #1

I've finally had a chance to post some of the shots from the past 2 months! Mostly shot for a book due out next year from Dorling Kindersley. It's been a fantastic opportunity to see places and spend time with people I otherwise would never have come into contact with.

These are some shots from Montana, all out-takes as I can't post the others until the book's out. Shot in various locations on the Flathead Reservation. When I arrived the smoke from forest fires had reduced visibility to a few metres but lifted to reveal some breathtaking scenery.

Vietnam silk worm factory

These from a silk factory in Dalat, Vietnam. The place was deafeningly loud and about 35º yet the women there still managed to tease us mercilessly.

Purdey & Sons Gun-Makers

A very interesting morning at Purdey and Sons Gun-Makers of Mayfair for Morning Calm magazine. Some of the guns on sale are upwards of £95k and are 1000 man-hours in construction. They're beautiful things. I realised that I've never held a shotgun before today. That's Mr. Purdey the younger top left.

Kazakhstan #2

I wasn't sure what to expect from Kazakhstan but I found the people about the friendliest I've ever met. Many enjoyable evenings spent conversing with google translate and drinking fermented horse milk.

Kazakhstan

Just back from an amazing week in Kazakhstan for Dorling Kindersley. Thanks so much to Gulnara, Bolat and family for making me feel so welcome and for introducing me to Kazakh culture. Thanks also to Mr. Salmenova Sr. who told me I drink vodka like a Kazakh before I proved conclusively that I absolutely don't...
